This keynote speech (in Dutch) marked the beginning of the conference. In his speech, René Grotenhuis declared his disappointment concerning the SER-publication. Grotenhuis takes three fields of interest to explain this disappointment:

1. Income inequality
2. Investment strenght of developing countries
3. Social and ecological costs
