International consultation Light Development

15 April 2010

On April 15th 2010, the Knowledge Centre organised an International Consultation on the concept of 'Light Development' in The Hague. 'Light development' is a new way to structure 3P: People, Planet, Profit. At the project level, it is a sustainable design concept that combines social, ecological, and economic values in religion-sensitive ways. At the organisational and network level, it is a value anchor for 3P development cooperation cultures.

The purpose of the consultation was to explore the concept of Light Development and critically reflect upon it. For this, several experts were invited to share their view on the challenges of religion-sensitive sustainable development and the potential role of light development therein: Wendy Tyndale, Frans Wijsen (both members of the Advisory Board), Marnix Niemeijer (TEAR), Jan de Valk (Stoutenburg), Cathrien de Pater (Sr. Policy Officer Biodiversity) and Paul Hendriksen (Transition Towns). The experts agreed with an integral approach, but were more or less ciritical on the concept of Light Development.
